This was a last minute order from a lovely lady for her son’s first birthday. The idea of a sea creatures theme came from her Italian husbands surname, ‘Pesce’ which literally translates as ‘fish’. I loved making this cake! The (poor lighting) pictures were very quickly taken on my cake stand at home, but hopefull she’ll be able to send me some shots from the pictures once set up at the party.

8″ vanilla sponge filled with vanilla BC with 12 vanilla cupcakes covered with vanilla BC and 12 chocolate cupcakes covered with chocolate ganache BC.

What do you think of my fish? I don’t know if he’s meant to be Nemo – I just ended up making an orange fish. My husband said he’s a little too chubby to be Nemo!! Cupcakes are themed with ocean pearls and seashells.

I will post more detailed pics later today on my facebook page at www.facebook.com/thelittlecakery

These two cupcakes towers were my first cupcake towers, both for the same customer – her husband and brothers birthday celebration!! It was so exciting! A massive THANK YOU to all the lovely flickr talent for inspiration on all things cupcake.

The top cake is a 6″ square decorated with a handmade ‘mrdanga’. A ‘mrdanga’ is a drum instrument from India which is commonly used to play ‘kirtan’ or ‘music’. All cakes are eggless chocolate sponge with chocolate ganache BC.

Had a few tears with this set of cupcake towers. To begin with, my oven had been playing up. So it took 3 times the amount of time it usually take to bake all the cakes for this weekends orders. Then, when I finally placed the stethoscope on the cake, it broke – into several pieces. Then, the black ‘plain and simple’ rainbow dust i had used on the stethascope srpinkled EVERYWHERE over my nice clean blue cake – so I spent a couple of hours making bits to cover up the black speckles!! So I stayed up all night finishing the cakes…THEN, when I finally went to drop off the two cupcake towers at the venue in the morning… I pieced together my brand new round stand and it was fine – looked even more beautiful in the sun! But the square stand was having none of it – none of the pieces fit, and if we forced them they were breaking. SO I quickly popped over to the local cake store (lucky we were near one) and thankfully they had a square clear acrylic stand which we could hire. After some tears and scrambling around for the £150 deposit, we eventually got back to the party venue (in their lovely home) at about 1.55pm. The party was due to start at 2pm. At 2.03pm both cupcake stands were fully set up. PHEW! Thank god my lovely, patient, calm minded husband was with me… Sorry to bore you with my story!

The top cake is a 8″ round decorated with a ‘doctor’ theme. All cakes are eggless vanilla sponge with vanilla BC. I had a bit of a browse on flickr for ideas and themes, so credit to many of the flickr users who have made and shared their ideas on a doctor theme. And thanks to Avril (Honeybee KT) for the idea of a blue base – I was worried white would look yoo plain and dull!
